Cutting Boards

Our cutting boards are all end grain. End grain cutting boards yield the “hardest” cutting surface which results in fewer and shallower scars from the knife edge. All of our cutting boards are finished on both sides so you can use it for cutting on one side and for serving on the other side, just remember to flip it over or you’ll wind up with two sides for cutting. We use close grained hardwoods like maple, walnut and cherry.

Puzzles

Our puzzles are made with poplar, cherry, walnut and oak pieces. The design is often called a quilters puzzle since the pieces can be arranged in many patterns similar to those used on quilts. Each puzzle can be arranged in many patterns. See how many unique patterns you can make. Our earliest customers, who bought our puzzles for their kids are now watching their grand-kids play with them for hours.

Bowls

Our bowls are thin to thick, small to large, art to utility. Utility bowls, those intended to be used for food, are finished with food safe oils and waxes.

Walnut oil is our preferred food safe finish. These bowls have thicker walls to help withstand the rigors of daily use. Our other primary finishes, for bowls not intended for food use, are Watco® Danish and Tung oils.

We use mostly local woods but we do use some western species and some tropical woods. We make every effort to use wood from trees that are responsibly and sustainably harvested.

Hollow Forms

Hollow forms are turned wooden objects whose shapes resemble vases, urns or globes. They are very difficult to make since they must be hollowed out through the small opening in the top. Special jigs and turning tools have made it easier to make hollow forms but we still make them the old fashioned way with handheld turning tools.

Platters and Trays

Although they are functional, our platters and trays are also art. We choose woods that have showy grain or figure. They are finely polished and are often waxed after being oiled.

Note: They can be hand washed if they are immediately towel dried. Never wash a fine wooden bowl or platter in a dishwasher.
